Common use

Vyfat capsules is primarily used to manage obesity, working effectively as part of a comprehensive weight management program. This medication belongs to a class of medicines known as lipase inhibitors. In addition to managing obesity, this capsule helps overweight individuals lose excess body weight and maintain the weight loss. Reducing body weight can lessen health risks like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease and improve your overall quality of life.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. The medicine can be taken during or within 1 hour after each main meal that contains fat. If a meal is missed or does not contain fat, skip your dose of Vyfat capsule. For optimal results, evenly distribute your daily intake of fat, protein, and carbohydrates over three main meals.

Precautions

Patients with a history of hyperoxaluria (excessive urinary excretion of oxalate) or calcium oxalate kidney stones should exercise caution when taking Vyfat. Those with problems absorbing nutrients or organ transplants may also need to use this medicine with caution.
Thyroid Disorders: If you have a thyroid condition and are taking levothyroxine, you should take Vyfat capsules and levothyroxine at least 4 hours apart to prevent any potential interference with thyroid hormone absorption.
Diabetes: You should closely monitor your blood sugar levels as Vyfat capsules could affect blood sugar control.

Contraindications

Vyfat is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to the Orlistat. It is best avoided by those with gallbladder problems, chronic malabsorption syndrome (a digestive disorder that prevents the body from absorbing nutrients from food) or cholestasis (liver dysfunction that occurs when bile secretion and flow are reduced or stagnant).
The use of this medicine is not advised if you have eating disorders like anorexia nervosa or bulimia, as these conditions might become worse.
Vyfat should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless recommended by your doctor. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before starting this medicine.

Possible side effect

While taking Vyfat capsules, you might experience some of the following side effects: Oily spotting in feces; Flatus with discharge (This refers to passing gas that may be accompanied by a small amount of fluid or fecal matter); Fecal urgency (You may feel a sudden, strong urge to pass stool); Increased defecation (You might need to go to the toilet more often than usual); Soft stools.

Drug interaction

Vyfat (Orlistat) can interact with medicines such as anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, jantoven), antidiabetic drugs (like metformin or insulin) and vitamin or mineral supplement (e.g., beta-carotene, vitamin E).

Missed dose

If you forget to take a dose of Vyfat capsule, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more Vyfat capsules than prescribed, you might experience symptoms like oily spotting in feces, flatus with discharge, or increased defecation. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Storage

Store Vyfat capsules in a cool, dry place, ideally at a temperature below 30 degrees Celsius. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat. Keep it tightly sealed in its original packaging. Always keep this medicine out of reach of children. Ensure you use Vyfat before the expiry date printed on the pack.
